Our Ceremony

The ceremony will take place in Mausoleo di Santa Costanza: http://www.santagnese.org/mausoleo.htm
We chose Santa Costanza, because…
…like us, it is deeply rooted in Rome and in its history.
…like us, it wants our guests to feel they are really part of the ceremony (guests do not sit behind the bride and the groom, but we all sit around the altar).
…it overheard our first calls, and overlooked our first big arguments. Sometimes, it also overlooked our kisses. Well, it’s not our fault if it stands next to Francesca’s university library!
Santa Costanza dates back to the 4th century, when Emperor Constantine I, the first Roman Emperor to convert to Christianity, built it as a mausoleum for his daughter Constantina. His other daughter Helena was also buried here.In the early Middle Ages the mausoleum was dedicated as a church to Santa Costanza. Santa Costanza stands now in a very similar fashion as to when it was first built. A few of the mosaics have had some minor damage and incorrect restoration but for the most part it stands in excellent condition as a prime example of early Christian art and architecture. Constantine built the Mausoleum on the Via Nomentana, next to the catacombs were Christians killed during the last great Roman persecution were buried. Princess Constantine was deeply devoted to Saint’Agnese,a young martyr also buried in the site. In the Middle Ages, a Basilica dedicated to Saint Agnese was built using columns and materilas from the surrounding Roman ruins.
